Shared or private?
Shared services here are mostly stop-based. Ben's Bus serves the bus station or UCPA. AlpyBus serves Place du Slalom, the bus station or UCPA, and only stops where you have booked. Alpine Fleet has more than 10 fixed stops, or door-to-door with a change at Moûtiers.
Private saves the changeover and takes you as close to your accommodation as access allows. Over three hours, that matters more than on a short route.
How long does the journey take?
Each provider publishes its own estimate for normal conditions. They do not all measure the same thing, so treat them as a range rather than a promise.
Ski-Lifts gives the route as about 202km via the A41, A43 and Moûtiers. Saturday changeovers can add a lot to that.
- Alpine Fleet About 3h to 3h30
- Alps2Alps About 2h10 to 2h30
- AlpyBus About 3h30
- Ben's Bus About 3h
- Mountain Drop-offs About 3h; longer on busy weekends
- Ski-Lifts About 2h45
Arriving in Val Thorens
Parts of Val Thorens are pedestrian. Ski-Lifts says it drops you at the nearest authorised access point if your accommodation cannot be reached by vehicle, usually a short walk.
Ben's Bus says free resort shuttles run from its stops to the rest of the resort.
Picking up at Geneva Airport
Most transfer desks are in the arrivals hall on the Swiss side. Mountain Drop-offs notes that only flights from France arrive on the French side, with a signed walk to the Swiss side. Allow time for baggage and sports equipment, which arrive on a separate belt.
Give every provider your flight number so it can track delays. Here is where each says it meets you.
- Alpine Fleet Desk in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall. Turn right, near the yellow visitor services desk.
- Alps2Alps Driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign.
- AlpyBus Desks in the arrivals hall. Turn right out of baggage reclaim, about 20 metres, beside the Montreux Jazz Café.
- Ben's Bus Desk in the Terminal 1 arrivals lounge.
- Mountain Drop-offs Swiss side. Turn left after arrivals and walk 30 metres to its desk.
- Ski-Lifts Not confirmed on the pages checked.
Public transport to Val Thorens
By train, go to Moûtiers and take the S63 bus to Val Thorens. Altibus says it runs all year, with more departures in winter.
Altibus also sells a winter-only coach from Geneva Airport.
What does it cost?
We do not print fares on this page. Prices move with date, flight time, group size and vehicle, and a headline "from" fare is the lowest available, not your price.
Shared fares are per person. Private fares are per vehicle. Compare one-way and return quotes on the same basis, for the same dates and the same number of passengers. We have not run a like-for-like quote exercise, so we do not say which provider is cheapest.
Sources and method
Every row comes from the provider’s own website, checked on the date shown. We include a business only where its current site confirms this exact route and service. Policies change, so confirm details with the provider before you book.
